This is a FROZEN product, pickup from our Mt Albert store only. Stock up your freezer for all those soups, stews and sauces to get you through winter. Can also be heated and consumed as it is, or boiled down further (with or without adding your choice of herbs and spices) and left to set as an aspic, or cut into squares to eat as is.

Our bone broth is not watered down and is naturally very high in the inherent gelatine/collagen compounds found in good quality bone broth. At room temperature it is a jelly.

BENEFITS OF BONE BROTH

Grandma knows that chicken soup is a great food if you’re unwell and it’s long been used as a go-to if you’ve come down with a respiratory infection. Interestingly, chicken soup may act as mild anti-inflammatory and it contains compounds that may help the immune system.

BONE BROTH OR STOCK?

People sometimes confuse the terms “bone broth” and “stock”. While both are made from simmering animal bones, and sometimes meat, in water, bone broths are cooked over many hours, and stocks are cooked for much shorter periods of time. Long cooking time allows more nutrients to seep out from the bones and into the cooking liquid. This includes high amounts of nutrients like collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, providing structural support and elasticity to bones, tendons, skin, cartilage, and joints.[ref]

Thus, bone broths are significantly higher in protein compared to stock.

Bone broth is often celebrated for its high levels of protein-rich collagen and healthy minerals, it’s not a magic bullet on its own. WHAT IS COLLAGEN?

The technical stuff: Collagen is a protein made up of amino acids, glycine-proline-[X] OR glycine-[X]-hydroxyproline  where [X] can be any of the other 17 amino acids, and every third amino acid is glycine.

The strong stuff: Collagen provides structural support to the extracellular space of connective tissues. Because it is strong and resistant to stretching, it is the perfect building block for skin, tendons, bones, and ligaments. Without it, there’s nothing to hold you together.
