  • Don’t smoke. Smoking creates a significant stress on the body and is has a very well-established link to depleted vitamin C in the body. 

  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables: people who have poor nutrition are more susceptible to infections of all kinds.

  • Exercise regularly: moving regularly promotes good health and therefore a healthy immune system. Some benefits may come from the improvement in circulation, ensuring the different components of the immune system can reach all areas and be more effective

  • Maintain a healthy weight: being overweight promotes inflammation. Being underweight leaves you with no reserves. A healthy body weight gives you a happy medium. 

  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation. Alcohol is not a health food. End. Of. Story.

  • Look after your digestive health. You have more immune cells lining your gut than any other part of your body. If the gut-immunity is challenged by digestive troubles, it stands to reason that your defences elsewhere may be somewhat compromised. We can help with that. 

  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and (politely) suggesting to your co-workers that their cold or flu is something that they are best to keep at home!

  • Try to minimise stress: Mind and body are closely linked, that is a known fact. What is also clear is that stress (and there are many sources of stress) depletes the body of some of the essential nutrients needed for a strong immune system.
