Emma Gardiner is a degree qualified Naturopath and Medical Herbalist (BNatMed, with Distinction) with 30 years experience in healthcare. Her passion for health began in the allopathic medical system when she completed a nursing degree (BAppSci, Nursing) in Australia in 1991 which led to a career as a Registered Nurse. There she gained valuable experience across many fields of medicine and surgery including paediatrics, accident & emergency, cardiology, intensive care, obstetrics & gynaecology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, oncology, gerontology, and operating theatre nursing.
During this time Emma recognised that, whilst good at dealing with trauma, surgery, and acute symptom management, this form of medicine was unable to help bring about meaningful changes for many of the chronic and complex health conditions, imbalances, and challenges experienced as a result of our 21st century lifestyles. This led her to enrol in the Bachelor of Natural Medicine in 2014 and enabled her to pursue her true passion of helping people to heal.
Emma aligns with the view that good gut health, nutrition, and functional detoxification pathways are essential to optimal wellbeing. She believes that the human body has an innate ability to heal, if given the right environment and nutrients to do so.
Given her broad experience across a range of health fields Emma is able to support people with a variety of concerns and is comfortable working alongside conventional health treatments.
Some examples of the health issues that she has experience working with include stress, hormone imbalances and menstrual issues, digestive complaints, mood imbalances, biotoxin illness, skin complaints, fatigue, sleep issues, immune support, weight management, and cardiometabolic disease.
Emma understands that each individual is unique and is dedicated to identifying and addressing the root cause and ongoing drivers of symptoms and health challenges. She does this using a combination of a thorough case history, physical examination, and if required, functional tests to detect metabolic, hormonal, and biochemical imbalances.
Emma is passionate about empowering people to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. Her approach involves personalised, evidence-based wellness plans that are achievable and realistic, and focus on nutrition, lifestyle, and where necessary, targeted nutrient and herbal medicine support.
Emma’s areas of particular expertise include:
2019 Bachelor of Natural Medicine, with Distinction
1999 Diploma of Aromatherapy
1991 Bachelor of Applied Science (Nursing)
Professional Association Memberships
Emma currently serves on the committee of NMHNZ as Secretary.
