These include: antidepressant, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, cholagogic, cicatrisant, depurative, emmenagogue, haemostatic, hepatic, laxative, nervine, stomachic, and tonifying for the uterus. [1]
Roses are widely considered the most beautiful flowers in the world. This flower is an integral part of innumerable stories, legends, myths, and legacies. Everyone, even those who do not know about any of its medicinal properties, knows it is the flower of love. Roses can soften even the hardest of hearts, invoking romantic feelings!
Rose essential oil is produced from Damascus Rose Rosa damascena, which is composed of hundreds of naturally occurring components. The major ones are citronellol, citral, carvone, citronellyl acetate, eugenol, ethanol, farnesol, stearpoten, methyl eugenol, nerol, nonanol, nonanal, phenylacetaldehyde, phenylmethyl acetate, and phenyl geraniol. [2]
Rosa damascena are the preferred variety because they are the most fragrant species and are believed to be the original red roses with the strongest aroma and highest oil content. However, pure steam distilled Rose essential oil (Rose otto) retails for around $56 per mL (liquid gold!), so we have sourced a rose oil produced by absolute extraction, but “untreated” meaning the roses were grown organically.
